Photography Question

Good Learning Camer?

I am looking to take a class in photography, but I am interested in getting a digital camera to learn on. I have a point and shoot but obviously it doesn't give me the quality that I am looking for. My question is, what is a good camera to learn on that will give me good quality images even in larger prints? I will be taking pictures mostly of my toddler so I will need something that doesn't have the shutter lag that I encounter with my point and shoot. Any ideas? Thanks!

  Hi Autumn.
Depending on your budget:-
Canon 300D / D-Rebel (same camera different names).
Nikon D70

If you want to spens a little less, look at the Canon S50 (or it's newer counterpart), gives you EOS like functions but it's not an SLR.

Go to you shop and handle the gear, get the camera that FEELS best in your hands.

Enjoy.
Cheers
DC

  From Autumn:

Thanks for your input. I have been looking at the Rebel. Sometimes intuition just leads you to the right thing for you and that's kind of what I felt after I've been researching. :) Does anyone here have one? Could they offer anything they particularly like or dislike?
