How to Store Images

I store all my images on CD-R discs. I believe they are re-writable ... they must first be reformatted, then I can burn images from my PC to disc. Is this a good method for long-term storage? Is DVD better? Non re-writable?
Thanks

Non-rewritable is better than rewritable. Can't say anything about DVDs.

DVD isn't better, but it holds a lot more data.

What you are using sounds more like a CDRW. They are not good for long term storage and you can only write to them so many times before they become corrupt. You can read/write to them just like a hard drive making them good for temorary storage while you edit but burn the contents to a CDR for storage. What I have done is occasionly burn the contents to CDR as a backup copy.

Quality is the key to long term storage. Don't count on cheapy disks to be usable after ten years or so. Buy quality name brand and pay a little more. Use the cheapy ones for in work temporary usage. I throw away about five or six at each editing session as I save stuff temporarily.
