If I create a 5x7 file, will it print that size? I took a picture of my dog and did some editing to it in photoshop. I created an image with a print size of 5" x 7". My question is... if I take it to be printed, will the 5x7 they print match my screen, or will it be cropped somehow based on some sort of magic ratio they use in the process?

The machine print may not be that size, as the ones I've seen print to a 3:2 ratio. A 6 x 4 fits that perfectly. You could try your 5 x 7 and see if the cropping is objectionable. Or you can buy a $150 injet printer from HP, Epson or Canon and print your own, any size you want up the the max paper size the printer takes. Hint: for printing on the store's machine or on your own inkjet, the resolution of whatever size you print should be around 240 pixels per inch. Your can check print size and resolution in Image/Image Size in Photoshop.
