Yashica Camera SLR I have a Yashica "FX-Dse quartz" SLR. I'm not sure how to use it! Every once in a while the batteries go dead for no apparent reason. It has a leather case and I was told the light meter is always on as long as the camera is out of its leather case or the lens is uncovered. Is there a way of shutting off the light meter other than taking it out of its case? Any information on this camera would be appreciated. I bought it from a fellow employee I used to work with. There is a switch on the front of the camera just to the side of the lens. It has 3 positions. One position is an orange "O". the next position is "AE-L" and the 3rd postion is "S-T". I feel if I leave it one of these positions it uses up the battery. Again any information on how to use this camera would be appreciated. Thanks, Tim Lovold

Tim, this is a common complaint. All cameras that utilize quartz oscillator circuits like yours, discharge a small amount of electricity, even when the camera and its light meter is otherwise turned 'off'; eventually this small but constant discharge will drain the battery. The solution is to remove the battery whenever you are putting the camera away - always a good idea anyway to prevent damage from long-term battery leakage and corrosion.
