Film and Filters for Africa Photography I am leaving for Africa in 2 months and I will be travelling from Capetown to Kenya along the East. I wanted to know if anyone had any suggestions on what film I should bring and any filters you may recommend. There will be a people, landscapes and lots of animals. The majority of the shots will be during the day, but I am sure there will be some sunset photos and sunrise at the sand dunes in Namibia. They will mostly be used for an album, but I might blow wome up into 8 x 10 or one up from that. I don't want to have to worry about pushing film etc and I would appreciate any comments or suggestions Regards....Ricci-Lee

Another bit of information is that I will be using a soom lens for alot of the animal shots and landscapes...around 200mm I have heard that Fuji superia 100 and Fuji superia reala film are great for most of the shots

I think a circular polarizer (CPL) and a warming filter (81A) would be enough. There is a warming tone circular polarizer that will combine the two effects. There is yet another Gold-n-Blue polarizer from Singh-Ray that you can adjust the amount of blue and warm tones (expensive). For people photos, I may not use any filter at all. Your choice of 100 speed is good, but it won't hurt to pack a few rolls of 400 speed film for animal shots, just in case. Hope this helps.

I used Kodak Gold 400 when I was in Kenya a couple of years ago these all come out with great colour and sharpness. Film has now improved even more since then and I would go with Fuji but as said above make sure you have some ISO 400 in the bag. I only had a polarised filter on a 300 Zoom lens which I would recommend getting if you haven't already got one. Good luck and have a great time. Kenya is a fantastic place. You'll never visit a zoo again. Vince :-)
