Photography Question

Jeffrey J. Slobotski

Keep K1000 or Get EOS Rebel

I have used digital for quite some time now, but want to get "reintroduced" to film based photography.

I have a K1000 with a flash and that's about it---was debating selling the K1000 and picking up a EOS Rebel xsn or Ti---what would you recommend to someone who wants to get started taking some nature/landscapes and stills...

Any websites you'd recommend as well?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Jeffrey,

I'm still pretty much a beginner, and have to admit to never having used a Rebel. I can however give my humble opinion about the k1000.

It's built like a tank. I had one for years, took it all around the world, dropped it, kicked it, knocked it against cliff walls, and even dropped furniture on it while moving once, and it never stopped working.

I don't know if the Rebel or any other AF SLR would be so sturdy (with the exception of expensive top-level pro models).

I would suggest going to a shop and speaking to a sales rep to get their opinion. As I mentioned I'm fairly new at photography, but I can say without a doubt that if it's toughness you're after, the K1000 is hard to beat.

I would suggest keeping the K1000 and use it to improve your skills and techniques in photography instead of depending on the camera to do everything for you. Just my 2 cents.

I have a K1000 and a Pentax *ist (film-based). I love them both, but would never give up my K1000. It IS built like a tank and very very dependable. Don't part with yours, I think you'll be sorry.
