Choosing Good Processing Lab I shoot color negative and occassionally B&W film. I usually have my photos developed at the local Duane Reade,CVS,or Rite Aid,order a CD of the images to upload to Photoshop. The cost approx. 13.00 to 15.00. I have seen cheaper places that charge around 10.00,including the CD. One particular local place even develops the 2nd role for free. Despite this, I read that one should use a semi-professional lab that develops on site. Is it worth it to pay the extra cost? Thanks

Frank, I recently set up my own darkroom and developed my first B & W film in it. I have to say, I liked my own developing MUCH better than most of the negatives I've had developed at other drugstores (Rite Aid in particular). I didn't do anything special except follow the chemical directions and those that I was taught in school, but I think at the "cheaper" places, they don't take as much time to really make sure everything is developed properly. A local lab, or even a larger chain that specializes in photography seems to work much better for me. I had started to rely on the local camera place where I live because the people were extremely knowledgeable. Sure you pay a little bit more, but in the long run, you get a much better product. Hope this helps!
