How to shoot the moon or other celestial bodies


Dear Jim: For most of this mon.(Aug), Mars can be seen in the Eastern sky. Supposedly by Aug. 27, with a 75 power magnification,Mars will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye. I have a 28-300 zoom Tamron lens, and 64 ISO Kodachrome film. Can you suggest a lens opening, and speed? According to my Nikon handbook a full moon should be shot at f.8, and 1/250sec.That is based on an elevation of 40 degrees in the sky. Your input would help me immensly.

  You're not going to get an image of mars with a regular camera lens. If this window I'm typing in were a camera view finder, you wouldn't be able to fill up an o with the image you'd get of mars.
