How to shoot the moon or other celestial bodies

Dear Jim: For most of this mon.(Aug), Mars can be seen in the Eastern sky. Supposedly by Aug. 27, with a 75 power magnification,Mars will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye. I have a 28-300 zoom Tamron lens, and 64 ISO Kodachrome film. Can you suggest a lens opening, and speed? According to my Nikon handbook a full moon should be shot at f.8, and 1/250sec.That is based on an elevation of 40 degrees in the sky. Your input would help me immensly.
Respectfully, Charley Andrisano.

You're not going to get an image of mars with a regular camera lens. If this window I'm typing in were a camera view finder, you wouldn't be able to fill up an o with the image you'd get of mars.
