Buying a Camera I am looking to purchase a new camera. I will shoot a variety of subjects. I want to spend less than $500.00 and want the best value. I need: Robust travelworthy gear that I can carry around the world, good manual focus and auto focus capabilities, a camera I that can grow with me as my photography improves. Any suggestions?

Go for the Canon EOS Elan IIe or the new 7e. It has enough basic features to keep a beginner happy and advance features to grow with you as your photography improves.
