Purchasing Vintage Medium Format Camera

Hello
I am wanting to purchase a vintage medium format camera.I need some suggestions on what model and what type of questions should I ask to insure it will be working correctly.
I also have a question in regards to low speed film(I am thinking 50??), anyhow when is it appropriate to use this film(correct lighting etc.) and is the main benefit only that of sharpness?
Thanks
Heather

To your 1st question, do you like red shoes? Cameras are only a box to hold film and lens at the correct distance from each other. Other than that, it's all preference. I like old Mamiyas, other collectors wouldn't take one as a gift. They only want Broncas of Hassleblads. The only way to determine if it works (correctly) is to try it.
50 iso film is sharp as is all slow film, limitations are that you need more light therefore longer exposures
