minolta maxxum 50 i want to go a little further then my 300mm lense but dont have alot of money I have the 2x converter which I can only use with manual focus and my pictures arnt so good. I saw I can get a 400mm sigma sometimes reasonable but dont have alot of money to spend I need to go alittle further I like the 500mm mirror lense which arnt expensive but im afraid to try it and spend more money I saw with a 2x converter sometimes you lose af which I want af if I can because im afraid of my pictures coming out bad. what would you suggest to get alittle further then my 300mm sigma but still be able to hand hold would you get a 400mm and sometimes use like a 1.4 converter or would you get a mirror lense. I was reading and I think they said if you go over 500mm its hard to get af unless you have alot of money what would you suggest to either use with my 300mm which I like or but alot of times I need to go further because im taking pictures of hawks and I cant always get close. im doing alot better with my minolta maxxum 50 but sometimes I want to go further I would love over 500af but I dont have that kind of money and I see you have problems hand holding and getting af.my email is carolscars@netzero I need to change it on here. almost always the camera and lense have nothing to do with getting close to hawks!find a pattern to their routine and wait , don't move be ready ! their eyesight and hearing are exc., unless you're a mouse. short on money?, aren't we all! af after 300mm, not likely without money. handheld, not likely! once you put on your 2x, camera shake is unacceptable. tripod , remote release, manual focus. most pictures you see of hawks are captive.zoos etc.. hth sambo
