Vertical Blemish on my slides I am having a problem with some of my slides coming back with a strange orange, vertical bar running up the left side of the frame. It occurs in pictures that are exposed properly as well as those which are over/under exposed. I have been using mostly Fuji Velvia (all landscapes). What is causing this???? HELP

My parents had a similar problem once. It turned out that their film door was not shutting properly, so that all of their shots were getting exposed through a gap in the door. Once they got it fixed, the camera worked fine again. If this happens only occasionally, it might be that the door is beginning to have trouble and opens slightly when you bump it or hold the camera in a certain way but is closed most of the time. Greg, In addition to the door seals with the body . . . if your camera back has a window in it so you can see the film cannister check the seals around that too . . . it should provide a light seal with the film cannister and leaks around that can cause the symptoms you describe on the frame after the one that's in front of the film gate. As you seek to find the cause, remember that the image inside the camera projected onto the film is upside down and reversed left to right. So if it's showing on the left side of the frame, it's occurring to the right side of it inside the camera . . . which is why, if it's a light leak around a film can window it would have to be hitting the following frame and doing the damage before you expose it when making a photo. Otherwise look for possible leakage areas toward the right side inside the camera; the seal next to the back hinge is another area to examine. -- John Lind
