Photography Question

Abode 7.0

After working with my pictures in Adobe 7.0, I take them down to the local store to be printed, only to find that a text I added or a border is getting cut off. How do I format my pictures according to the size I want to print, i.e. 5 X 7's or 8 x 10's.. I've tried setting the image size and setting the resolution. What am I doing wrong?

I've had that happen before, so I not only resize the image pixel-wise, but I also resize it to the intended print size.(There should be both a pixel dimansion as well as a inches/centimeters) However, then you need to communicate this to the developers when you drop them off. Since I started telling them "Please do not crop any edges, my pictures are already sized to the desired dimensions", they take a little more time with my pictures, and I am now pleased with what I get back.
I do not know how the chain-retail developers work with this issue...

My two cents,

Mikki

Set your print size 5 X 7's or 8 x 10 then the dpi must be set to 300. Be sure, when you view your photo in your PC are not pixelated or else it would'nt be sharp if printed.

  Hi Benji.

Mikki is correct, just tell the photo-lab not to crop your images. Any that don't quite fit the aspect ratio of the paper will simply have white borders on two edges that you can cut off later.

BUT

There is NO NEED to fiddle with the sizes in the file (particularly NEVER, EVER hit 'resample'), just leave everything at default and tell the lab you want 10x8 or 5x4 or whatever. The printing system will take care of all the scaling etc.

You are not the only person to have this problem. For some reason many labs seem to think that people want their pictures to fill the paper (and chop bits off the picture) rather than get all the picture (and chop off any white bits), crazy eh?

Let us know if everything works out, particularly let us know if it does NOT, there are many excellent photogs. on this forum, someone will have a solution.

Cheers
DC
