Tips for Photographing Birds and Unusual Pets


Does anyone know of a few ways to get great portraits of birds? Every time I try, the flash and/or the sound of the shutter frightens and startles the bird.

I have a pet cocketiel and while he gets nervous when the camera comes out (I think it's because he can't see my face!), I find it helps to have another person standing either next to you or behind you, as someone for the bird to focus on. Also, try use ambient light if possible, that way the flash isn't an issue.
