film to fast lenses - need help

hi

quite new to slr's. own an OM1n and love it. but please can someone advise me on what is the best film to use colour/b&w for sunny outdoor shots. my friend wants me to take candid snaps at her wedding. I don't want to disappoint her. also what is a fast lens? I have 2 a standard 50mm and a 28-90 zoom. no idea if they are fast. can anyone help?

You can use either lens for this purpose, but your 50 is likely to be somewhat sharper. A "fast" lens has a larger maximum aperture for use in low light situations. Your 50 qualifies. If your zoom has a max aperture of 2.8 or 3.5, it's considered fairly fast for a zoom. Want the best possible quality for your friend's wedding candids? Try Kodak Portra NC. It has a speed of 160, which should be fine. For these shots, open shade will give you better results than bright sunlight, which may cause shadows around eyes and noses.
