I am going on an outing to multnomah falls and since I can not do this again for a while I would like to get some good pictures the first time. I have a af cannon rebel slr but I would like info on the proper manuel settings.
Thanks for your input.

Proper settings will depend upon the desired results, but here a few guidelines which might help:

* A slow shutter speed will create a blur effect on the water. Speeds of 1/15 second all the way down to several seconds are possible with a slow film (100 ISO or lower). The longer the exposure time, the more pronounced the effect will be.

* Shutter speeds of 1/250 or faster will freeze the action of the water.

* Shoot on a cloudy day or in shade for the best results. Bright sunlight will make it harder to achieve a slow shutter speed, and will wash out the highlights. (In the enclosed example, you can see how a peak of sunlight in the lower right corner over-exposed a portion of the rapids.)
Meter the shot off a neutral element within the scene, such as the green leaves of the surrounding canopy.

* If you opt for a long shutter speed to show motion, try to compose the shot with little or no sky present,..as it will likely be over-exposed.

* Take many shots and bracket them.

Hope this helps. Good luck!
