Photography Question

Confused about NEW camera!

I just bought a Minolta MAXXUM 7 with a Sigma 28-105 Lens. I have been using a Minolta STsi MAXXUM, it is quite a bit larger, heavier and more advanced. It scares me, does anyone know how easy it could be to use compared to the one I have? I have read the manual, but it's sorta Greek to me, I have been shooting for a couple of years now, but it's like a new (anything) it's NEW, scarey. Is it easy to use?? Any advise will help. Thanks..........

I also just got a Maxxum 7 with the 3600 HS D flash. It has quite a lot of knobs and buttons but anything a photographer could ask for is in this camera. Although I don't have the STsi, you can start using the new camera with the very basic set up and move on to more advanced ones. For starter, use the full auto P mode (the one inside a square) for exposure, single automatic focus (S) with wide focus area (the symbol with 4 square corners), 14-segment honeycomb-pattern metering (the middle one) and you are all set. If you have specific question, you can post it here and we will try to answer them. Hope this helps.

Hi, I had an old Maxxum 7000 then went up to a Maxxum 7 then on to the Dynax/Maxxum 9. All I can tell you is shoot, shoot, shoot. It helped me to keep a setting journal. They can record your settings on the negative but I find it easier to look at my little note book. The weight is something I learned to like. I have a verticle grip on both that adds even more. It keeps me nice and steady I find. It can be confusing but just read that manual until it starts to make sense. You will find in time as you get used to it, you will start to love it. It is a lot more camera than you had but in a good way. Practice and learning about it front and back will bring it all together for you.

Best of luck,
Tonya
