Photography Question

Dual Monitors

I intended to use my laptop and a new monitor to edit photos, am told by a computer person friend that laptops can't contain the video card necessary to show pics on one screen and PS commands on the other. True? If not, what do I do to make the two montiors show separate things...thanks!

  Hi Laura.

Well, I'm editing this mail on an ancient Dell 8100 laptop with two monitors attached, and my desktop can spread between them. Your major headache will be whether your particular laptop and operating system can run double-headed, consult the manual, website etc, or come back here with the model etc. of your PC.

Anything with an GeForce-2-go graphics card should do the trick. Let us know what you have, we may be able to help.

Cheers
DC

  Dave,
I have the latest in a laptop...Compaq presario x1018CL, centrino 1.4/512/combo/15.4"/XPH Ntbk RB...it is wifi, has bluetooth, is a pentium M, takes SD and MMC cards, both 32 bit Cardbus and 16 bit PC cards, Type 1 or Type II...I bought it in January. Mobility Radeon 9200--I can make this thing work (not the wifi or bluetooth actually), but I don't understand computers and am saving my spare brain cells for learning PShop CS and how to be a photographer. THANK YOU FOR THIS HELP, Dave. Do you need more specific info on the computer?

  Hi again Laura.
First the good news.

As far as I can tell from Compaq and ATI (makers of the Radeon) your laptop is dual monitor capable with either XP-Pro or XP-Home :-)

Unfortunately everything you have is different to me, (I have a Geforce2-go graphics card and windows 2000-Pro, I'm also using PS-7) so I don't really know how to help you get it going.

Have you talked to the outlet where you got the PC?? They ought to help you get the WiFi and blueTooth working as well.

Anyone else on this list able to help Laura????

Let us know how you get on, please ask if you have more questions.

Best regards
DC

  Dear Dave,
Wanted to let you know that with one call to compaq tech support, I got the info I needed...some of it. I set up the seccond monitor by going to desktop setting and just clicking on extended desktop. I can move stuff from one to the other...YEAH!...not I have to figure out the next step. I move a little pic onto CRT from laptop and can work with the commands around it there but pic changes occur on laptop, not the big CRT...geez. Even the explanation confuses me. I'm getting it though and thanks so much for your help.
