Matting Fireworks Photos

Hi Guys!

I need your help! My son did a series of fireworks photos & we need opinions on what color matting to use. We are doing a series of 5 5x7's & they will be lined up vertically. Of course the background of these photos is black, but the fireworks are rather large in each so not much darkness shows. What color matting would you use?? The shop wants to use white, I want to use black with a white core or double matt with white liner & black overlay.. OPINIONS PLEASE!!! These are for a 4-H county fair contest for my 12 year old son. The photos are amazing for fireworks! Thanks in advance for your help!!

Angie :)

Obviously this is just an opinion, but I think double matted with the top mat being the black with white core like you said and the bottom mat, with a very narrow overlay be in a similar color to the burst, e.g. red for red burst, or pink, yellow or gold for yellowish/goldish bursts, cream for the lighter yellow, light green for the green bursts etc. This is what comes to mind first, but here's my disclaimer :) - sometimes I have these ideas on what I think will look good, but then when I actually see it on the shot, I think otherwise. Good luck - let us know how it turns out! Also - in the latest issue of snapshot newsletter, it referenced a fireworks gallery - I haven't visited it yet, but sometimes people frame their shots in the computer programs, so there might be some good ideas there. Good luck! -K

That sounds gorgeous - can you snap a pic of one and post it here? I'm interested to see how it turned out! Tell him good luck at the fair and let us know how he did! :) -K
