Rebel and lenses

HEllo,

I have a Canon eos rebel xsn and I am thinking about buying a zoom lense or telephoto lense.
I know that the Tamron 75-300mm f/4-5.6 LD would work with my camera \, but I am not sure about it being a different brand. I just don't know since in the instruction booklet it talks so much about not using lenses from other brands. I have also read mixed reviews about different brands in cannon. Can anybody please help me? is it that bad to get a different brand lense for my canon? what kind of experiences has other people have with non-canon lenses?. Please help I am trying to buy a telephoto lense but the apparently good quality canon lenses are very very expensive (at least for me a simple aficionado). I want the best quality I can get for less than 200 dolars.

PLEASE HELP,

Thanks,
Fernando.

You can use other brands of lenses on your Canon camera. However, these other makers do not license the lens mount design nor all the codes for the electronic communication betweent the camera and lens. They backward-engineer it and usually get it right. But sometimes they don't and their lens will work fine with current Canon models, but be incompatible with a new model. When this happens the manufacturers will update the electronics of the lens to restore full function with the new model at minimal or no cost. This has been a particular problem with Sigma. See http://www.sigma-photo.com/html/pages/faqsb.htm#22

While it may affect them, too, I have not heard of any specific problem with Tamron lenses in this regard.
