Canon D60 and the 1.4 TeleExtender

Does the Canon D60 work with the 1.4 Canon extender in auto focus mode using the 100-400mm image stabilizer lens?

Only the EOS 1v and 3 (and I think the 1Ds) have center af sensors that work with effective apertures from f/5.6 - f/8. All other EOS cameras, including the D30, D60, and new 10D, need maximum apertures of f/5.6 or greater for af to work reliably.

With the D60 + 100-400 f/4.5-5.6 + EF 1.4x you might get af to work in bright light and high contrast subject, but I wouldn't count on it generally working.

As soon as the 1.4 extender is fitted to the Canon D60 it switches the camara to manual focus, there are eleven contacts on the extender but only eight on the camara, so think it is impossible.

The Extenders 1.4x and 2x have 11 contacts on the lens side to match the 11 on the L lenses that they mate to. They have 8 on the camera side to match the 8 pickups in the camera's mount. The extra contacts are for communicating the converted aperture to the camera. I don't think the Extenders actively disable autofocus. When the effective aperture is too small the lens will still attempt to autofocus, it just won't be able to find focus.
