Shooting people against livingroom fireplace
What is the best way to photograph people in front of livingroom fireplace for a Christmas Card? I have 2 studio flashes and a speed light on a camera bracket that I would be able to use. I am concerned about the shadows that will be caused by being so close to the backdrop.

Shooting in front of a fireplace is not as easy as it may sound and often not as pleasing as you may have hoped. The problem is not so much the shadows you are talking about but rather the fireplace. If it is not lit then you end up with a black hole behind them. If it ablaze then you may have lens flare issues. Then there's problems with reflections from glass enclosures....Anyway if you still want to do this and all you're worried about is the shadows then bounce your flash off the ceiling.
