I use an epson 1280, It's affordable at 499.00, the ink is light fast and water resistant. The pics are instant dry with epson papers, and Ilford smooth pearl (which is what I use because I do not like glossy prints). The ink is water risistant, but I use Gepe Ink jet fix spray to make them water proof (epson does not recommend this). It prints up to 13x19 and is high resolution, so 11x14's look great. Epson is always the best way to go, If you have more to spend they have a wide range of Photo Printers, but I wouldn't lose dpi to go cheaper. This is the best printer I have ever owned for pictures, and I wouldn't change for anything (unless they come out with on that will do 16x20's at the same dpi, and price. Also check out the 2000P with archival inks (I couldn't afford it at the time, but that may be my next step).

Judith, Thank you very much for your help. It looks like the 1280 is how I will go, i've gotten several good remarks on that particular printer.

Only if you are sure you won't go larger than 8 x 10, look at the the Epson 890. It's about the same printer, only smaller, and you can save $200. I, too, am very satisfied with the Epson.
