Photography Question

Alice Dennehy

What is a stroboframe?

I am trying to minimise shadows behind the subject. I don't know how to use the bounce option, I tried it and the tops of the person's head was bright and the rest of the body was progressively darker. What is a stroboframe? Would this help? Please advise me if you could. Thanks

A Stroboframe is just one brand (of many) of flash brackets. They attach to your camera and hold your flash farther above your camera of off to the side. Here is a link to the page at B&H Photo featuring all the flash brackets they carry: http://www01.bhphotovideo.com/default.sph/FrameWork.class?FNC=CatalogActivator__Acatalog_html___CatID=653___SID=F10530C5F10

Even when using a flash bracket it is desirable to bounce your flash either on a white ceiling or wall or into a bounce attachment. It sounds like you didn't aim the head high enough when you did it. The idea is not to aim the head of the flash at your subject at all but to literally bounce the light off of the ceiling. You do this to increase the relative size of your light source to soften the light. Rather than the light from your little flash hitting your subject you are turning the ceiling into a large light which in turn illuminates your subject.

Alice, take a moment and cruise around B&H's website. You will find all kind of neat toys for your camera.

Jeff.
