Color Calibration

I have a problem with color on my monitor vs printer output. I have been doing some research on this and I'm wondering: 1) Is it really worth it to buy a color calibration software such as MonacoEZColor? 2) I have Adobe PS 5.5; I see that even 6.0 has more control over color -- would a simple upgrade be worth it? I am not expecting 100% exact results, but "close enough" would be fine. I am using Windows XP and Epson 1200 printer. I use a film scanner for slides most of the time and I like to print them out every now and then. I am sure you know how frustrating this can be. ANY help would be very much appreciated!

Absolutely. I struggled with this problem as well until I broke down and purchased the Colorvision software/colorimeter package. While more expensive, I would recommend the colorimeter option if at all possible.

>>2) I have Adobe PS 5.5; I see that even 6.0 has more control over color -- would a simple upgrade be worth it?<<

The upgrade won't get you any closer to good colour matching. I don't believe that PS6 has any greater "control" over colour than PS5.5. PS6 will allow you to have images with different colour spaces open simultaneously, which is of little benefit to you in a closed environment where you are always using your own scanner and/or digital camera.

Good, because as you know doubt know, 100% matching of an on-screen representation in a limited gamut/density range media like an ink-jet print just isn't going to happen... anymore than Provia, or E100S... or Kodachrome matching the "real world" is going to happen.

Hope this helps

Mark, thank you so much. I went ahead, in the meantime, and bought MonacoEZColor Version 2.1 off of Ebay. If I need the sensor pkg, I'll do that later. I haven't received the software yet... I have used so much ink and paper, I am sure the software route will save me a bundle in the long run. Again, I very much appreciate your thoughts on this; I don't feel like I made a wrong (and expensive) decision!
