Photography Question

David B. Spooner

a question of ethics

A few years ago my wife and I attended a rennasiance festival and I took lots of shots of the people. At the time I did not have my part time photography business and did not get permission/approval documentation from anyone. I'm not sure it's a good idea to upload those photos for sales purposes. Opinions and guidance appreciated

If the people are "recognizable", and you intend to profit from the images of them, you will need their permission.
Since we live in an extremely litigious society, it's always wise to have your butt covered.

Sounds like good advice Bob. How would you go about getting permission for a large festival that involved hundreds of people you would be shooting randomly...maybe the festival organizer?

The only legal way to make money selling photos of others without a
a release is when the photo will be for editorial use. So if you write an article and supliment it with photos that contain many individuals, or one, it is allowed.
Things like team photos arte OK too. unless it is a pro team then you must be contracted to take the photos and sell them.

Congratulations on finally getting your new camera.

My first piece of advice is READ THE MANUAL!!! Forget about all of the scene modes, they will only confuse you, and concetrate on the Av &Tv settings as well as Manual.
