  Hi Carolyn,
I live in the Pacific Northwest and it rains a lot and my camera gets wet a lot as well. I dont use any cleaners other than a soft cloth to dab off the water and I use a lens cloth for wiping my LCD or viewfinder clean. I got some mud on my 5D2 a couple of weeks ago which dried out and I just dabbed a t-shirt in some water and removed the mud. I have 4 camera bodies and have never used anything other than water to clean them. Maybe I am screwing up but they are all clean and working fine :)
I am careful of the contacts on the camera & lenses where they contact & communicate with each other when attached. Dont be rough with these contacts and I would be afraid of using anything harsh on them.

And if you ever do get caught in a downpour (which I have) snd your camera/lens gets absolutely soaked, just leave them out in a dry place for a couple of days before even attempting to remove the CF card, battery or lens.
Most cameras seal up pretty good so the danger is opening anything while wet which may allow moisture to get in.
I carry a couple of trash bags inside my camera backpacks which come in handy often.
my .02
Carlton
