Canon batteries no longer made..can I use these?

I have an older camera, Canon Powershot S3 and two sets of rechargeable CBK4-300 AA-type Ni-MH batteries. Going to Italy and wanted another set of batteries - that particular model is no longer made - am I okay to use the NB4-100 AA NiMH (1600 mAh)and is it okay to use my current charger? Can I use my charger with an adapter in Italy?...trying to locate my printed instructions.

Per the S3 instruction manual (p. 138): "If you are purchasing new batteries, look for Canon AA-size NiMH NB4-300 (NB3-AH set of 4) batteries."

CBK4-300 I think is the entire kit of 4 cells plus a charger. These are still available (found one at Amazon.com). The individual batteries are model number NB4-300 (2500 mAh) and readily available, for example:
NB$-300 at B&H.

I could be wrong, but I think anyone's AA size NiMH rechargeable batteries can be used, at as little as 1/2 the price of Canon's. But then again, there may be slight size differences and Canon's are a best fit.
