Matting, Framing and Photo Presentation In the course selection, I seem to find a course on correctly putting the final touches on a photo which you wish to display either for sale in a gallery or show or in your own home. I'd like to suggest the addition of a course that covers the theoretical aspects of presentation. We can't all afford to go to a frame shop and have the work done for us and even if we could, we still need the knowledge to know that it was done right. Could a course of this type be added to the selection of courses? I guess the real question is- Is there enough interest in a photo presentation course to justify adding it?

Hi Jeffrey, Thanks for your interest in a framing course. In the past, we did have a course on the subject of "do it yourself" framing and matting, but unfortunately, there was not enough interest to continue it. However, we'll keep your suggestion in mind, just in case! Thanks again.

Kerry, Thanks for the response, I had a feeling that lack of interest was involved. In the meantime I'll take a trip to the bookstore and try to find an in depth reference. I just started selling some of my work and believe my weakest area is in the matting and mounting portion of presentation. The images get lots of oohs,awes and wows so I think I'm doing that part right. I owe a lot of that to Kathleen Carrs Beginning Photoshop course. Thanks, Jeff

Hi John, Thanks for the info, I took a quick look at the article and it will be helpful. One of the issues I've run into is with the various tapes used for hinging. I haven't found one that I like. The Hinging Tissue Lineco makes is nice- unless you're a fumble fingered old guy like me, in which case it becomes a PITA. I'm finding that snapping the shutter is the easy part. I bookmarked your blog as it looks like you have a lot of useful info there. After I'm back to work I plan to take some more courses, a layoff got me to take a shot at selling since the UC check doesn't reach. So far the printer has made money, the frame supplier etc. has made money but I haven't. I think that is coming though since I'm slowly recovering start up costs. Again Thanks to both you and Kerry. What are you hinging? The mats, in which case white artists tape is ok: or the prints to the board, in which case, don't. Hinging the print is a bad idea, use archival corners and print on oversize paper so the corners don't show. Thanks, John Siskin

Looks like I'll be picking up some archival corners and using the tape for hinging the mat to the mount board. I've found so much conflicting info on the best way to mount the print to the board it was making my head spin. Thanks for clearing that issue up for me. Jeff
