Photography Question

Bob Cammarata

AKM Images, Inc...Fact or Fallacy?

I was approached via e-mail by AKM Images, Inc., who expressed an interest in some of my photos.
Right away, the cynic and skeptic in me prompted further investigation and I elected to pass.
I sent them a polite "Thanks...but no thanks" reply.

I'm just wondering if anyone else here at BP has been approached and if they've actually conducted business with this agency.

I just peeked at their website and was not impressed. Would think you did the right thing, unless the better thing to do would have been to not respond at all. They don't come across as very legit to me. If they are legit and can't do a better site then I would question how well they will represent any of us.

They approached me last year. I wasn't very impressed either. I don't think they are looking to scam anybody, I think they are new and are just trying to drum up business.

I received a letter from them today.
Wondering the same things.
Wasn't impressed by the website, either.
I feel the same as Carolyn.

Hmmmmmmmmm, let's see: They claim to represent 50 professional photographers (how many non-professionals, I don't know) after 7 years or so, have 40,000 images. What is that per pro photographer? 8,000 images??? THAT is a LOT of shots per pro photographer. In addition, a lot of their website shots are duplicated per category, travel, architecture, etc and I see a fair number of images that look like they were done in Japan or perhaps China.

I think Carolyn is right in that these folks are a start-up. If they approach you, you might try listening to what they have to say and keep an open mind. Who knows? Maybe they're a microstock outfit or getting a hold of a chunk of the far east market. You never can tell.
