Photography Question

Jill M. Martin

networking, sales, billable rate

I have been asked to do some portraiture for a business. A company wants to display some employees from the waist up. They have asked me for my desired billable rate per hour. I currently have a brochure that states $75 for an hour's worth of photos. Where do I go from here. I don't want to under or over price myself. They are a fairly large hospital corporation, so I know they are good for it.

Hi Jill. I think you've answered your own question. If your brochure states $75.00 per hour, then that's your rate.

At least until you determine a new rate, and that normally requires a well prepared business plan in order to determine a profit point.

There's just to many variables in photographic quotes for anyone to help. For example, is your rate considered a sitting fee, with extra costs for chosen photographs, or are they included. Is it at your studio or on location. Are makeup artists required. Will the employees be offerd the opportunity to purchase the images.
and on, and on, and on.

Also, don't forget to include editing time. In most cases it can be an equal or greater time investment than the shoot itself.
