Image Mangement Software

Any suggestions for an image management software? I have 20 years of negatives and slides that I am currently scanning with a Nikon Coolscan 4000, and would like more than an Excel spreadsheet for managing this volume. Any thoughts on ACDSee 4.0? Thanks.

I use IXLA Explorer. I'm sure there are other worthy selections, but this one meets my needs.

I've used Ixla, Fotosation, Ulead explorer and ACDSee. I prefer ACDSee, but I use their suite. It's a combination of programs for around $65. You can manage your CD's as well and make slide shows with sound with their Magellan. It also comes with fotoslate, which is an excellent printing program.

I have ACDSEE and it's a real good program for locating all your photo's on your hard drive and displaying them as thumbnails all in one place. You can click on them to display them in full size.

It has some basic photo enhancement, cropping, auto light level correction, manual light level correction, color, etc.. You can also purchase additional plug-ins that add more features.

I have version 3.1b so I am assuming that the 4.0 version would include more goodies. I like ACDSEE a bunch - it's a real good program. Mine was included with my HP Photosmart 1315 printer. You can download a free trial version at the ACDSEE site

Also take a look at the Canto Cumulus Demo that (most likely) came with your Nikon LS4000 scanner. This program costs more but - if you have tons of images - it is a very expandable and flexible solution.

We will go into this topic extensively in the final weeks of my upcoming Photoshop for Photographers course
