Macro Lens for a Beginer? hello anyone and everyone, I currently have a minolta film operated maxxum 50 with an AF zoom 28-100mm 1:3.5- 5.6 D lens. I want to start learning and experemeting with macro photography but dont know what kind of equipment I need, i.e. lens,and filter. Could anybody help me by pointing me in a direction or just provide some suggestions? thank you.

Nikon makes very nice macro lenses, don't know if they work with film. You should have a add-on flash for some kinds of macro photography (insects). I don't think you will need any filters.

welcome cory, there is a lot of stuff out there for macro photography.depending on how much money you're willing to spend and how serious your macro work is going to be. they do make inexpensive close-up filters that do pretty good and come in different strengths.i have a set of 3 that were about 40 bucks. do a search here on macro photography and i'm sure you'll find a lot of info. sam

If you can find a Vivitar 100mm f/3.5 with the Maxxum lens mount, you'll be well set. Your other option is a 55mm diopter (also called a close-up filter) which you attach to the lens you already own. __ _ Henry Posner B&H Photo-Video, Inc.

I use a set of 3 extension tubes on a couple lenses (28-70mm and 70-300mm usually)I got them on eBay for less than $30 including shipping. Take a look at my gallery for some examples of what I get. Good luck!

There are all kinds of macro lenses to be found. Search ebay and choose wisley. Extension tubes I find to be the best. A good flash unit is also a must. Pentax in my opinion had a great macro flash set up. Nikon sells the Ring flash and so on ect. ect.
