Buying a Flash for my camera

I have a Maxxum GT 35mm SLR Camera
and I cannot find any information for it on Minolta's website. I have no idea how old it is. I bought it on eBay and really like the camera a lot but I am having trouble finding a flash that is compatible with it. The camera has a built in smaller flash but I want a larger flash for taking photos of my son playing basketball. The flash built into the camera is not powerful enough and I wind up with blurry pictures. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I'm pretty sure it is a Maxxum 3 that Minolta branded as the "GT" for exclusive sales through Target, and maybe some other stores. Download the user manual from the Konica-Minolta website. Choose "Film Cameras" and "Maxxum 3 Date." I don't think the GT has the Date feature, so just ignore that section of the manual.

Because the GT has only full auto exposure modes, it requires a flash that is dedicated to Minolta's ADI flash system. Minolta also uses a proprietary hotshoe rather than the industry standard. Compatible Minolta models are the "D-series": 2500(D), 3600HS(D), and 5600HS(D). There are flashes by other makers that are compatible (such as Sigma's EF 500 DG ST and EF 500 DG Super), but you have to be sure that it is compatible with Minolta's ADI flash system.

  welcome cheryl,
i believe it is the same as the qtsi.
as jon said it does not have the date feature and only program settings.it does have manual focus but that is about it.i bought a flash for my maxxum xtsi and it also works on my qtsi.
the one I got was the promaster FTD 6500M.which i'm very happy with.there's also a sticker on the box that says for minolta no.5939.
i've had mine since 95 and even with the kids borrowing it,is still in great condition and works as well as the day I got it.makes a great no frills backup.
hth,sam
