Light Meters and YashicaMat 124 I have an old YashicaMat 124... full of film and ready to shoot but the only thing, is that I'm not really sure how to use it. There was no instruction book or anything. I don't have a light meter - as there rather expensive. Do you know where I could get one rather cheap? I was wondering if there was a way to take pictures without a light meter? If you have any information at all about the YashicaMat 124, please write me back.

Danielle, See this Q&A thread on estimating exposure settings. For more information about your YashicaMat 124, see the following page and its links: It's a great, underrated medium format TLR. -- John

As an aside, you can find used light meters relatively cheap. Check at your local camera stores that sell used equipment. Check B&H's used equipment department online.

Check also KEH Camera Brokers in Atlanta, Georgia. They've been in the used equipment mail-order business for years, have a stellar reputation (as does B&H in NYC), and an extensive web site with a database that is kept exceptionally current. One of the big names in meters is Gossen. In particular, two models are extremely popular, especially used (easy to find also): the Luna Pro, and Luna Pro SBC. -- John
