Quantaray Tech-10 135-400mm Zoom Lens

I recently purchased a Canon Rebel 2000 Kit. It came with the standard 28-80mm zoom. I purchased a Quantaray Tech-10 135-400mm Zoom Lens. Did I make a good choice here? I will be using it for nature photography.

Quantaray is the "house" brand name used by Ritz. Most of these lenses are made by Sigma and are virtually the same as those that Sigma sells under their own name. I assume the Quantaray Tech-10 135-400 is the same lens as the Sigma 135-400 f/4.5-5.6 Aspheric APO.

I think this is a good choice for someone who's budget is limited. I'm guessing you paid somewhere between $500 and $650 for this lens. The class of this zoom range (for EOS cameras) is the Canon EF 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L IS, which sells for around $1,600. Covering the range with a 135mm, 200mm, 300mm and 400mm would be even more expensive.

I wouldn't recommend using a teleconverter with this lens. You'll lose autofocus, plus sharpness and contrast will suffer.
