exposure adjustment

I understand that the exposure adjustment is needed under the various lighting conditions. However, what does it mean by increasing 1 stop, 1.5 stops, 2 stops....? Is it means the movement on exposure compensation ring?

"Stops" is a useful photographic term you will hear often. A stop is an increment of light measurement that doubles (or is cut in half). So, a stop more is twice the light, a stop less is half the light. In terms of aperture settings, f8 is a stop more light than f11, f5.6 is two stops more.
Stops are adjusted in ways other than using the aperture ring. A shutter speed of 1/125 is a stop less than 1/60.
Suppose you are advised to expose ASA 400 film using a stop more exposure? Shoot your 400 film at ASA 200. If your camera has DX coding, load your film as always and set your compensation ring to plus 1. If this isn't clear, Kodak's books may explain this better.
