Number of Pixels for a good quality photo

I have a friend who sent to me via email a picture that I want to print as a 4X6 photo. however, when I sent it to walgreens to be printed, it came out very distorted. They said that it was related to the number of pixels it had. It looks like it was emailed to me as 300 pixels.

It looks ok on my screen but doesn't print well, was it sent to me too small??

How can I print this pictue 4X6 and have good qualty??

Thanks for any feedback you can give.

300 pixels is too small for a good print. Ask your friend to email you the original size.

A good rule of thumb is at least 240 pixels per inch of photo size. More is better.

For instance, if you wanted a 4x6 photo, you should have an image that is at least 960 x 1440 pixels. If you want a high quality print of that size, then 300 pixels per inch is even better. In other words, a 1200 x 1800 pixel image.
