error 99 HELP! Does anyone know what Error 99 means on my Canon Rebel XTI? It says either shut off the power switch and on again or take out battery and re-install. That doesn't work. And it only does it when I use my Tamron 70-300mm lens. Not my wide angle.Any suggestions? Thanks!

Often this is the result of using a non-Canon lens that didn't get the electronic communication right. This is more common with several Sigma models designed/made prior to 2002. (

Oops. jazzed up my link and lost the rest of my post. Link to info about non-compatible Sigma lenses: LINK I have not heard of this happening with older Tamron lenses, but I suppose it is possible. Make sure the electronic contacts on the lens and the camera are clean, and that the lens is fully and securely seated in the mount. If it still gives ERR 99 problem, I'd check with Tamron customer service.
