Mom of 4 needs help buying good digital camera.

I am a stay at home mother of 4 and have a very limited income. I have saved about $400.00 to purchase a digital camera. I have been looking at the Fuji S3000. Can anyone tell me if this would be a good purchase. I can not afford to not buy the right camera. I have a 6 yr old, 3 yr old, twin 19 mths olds and I need to be able to capture their photos quickly and with quality. It is hard for me to go shopping buy myself and get film developed/picked up, etc. I am wanting to be able to take photos, and sometimes be able to enlarge up to
8 x 10's, etc. for their creative memory albums and also maybe play around with black/white hand tinting etc. with photoshop. I love pictures but unfortunately I do not know alot about equipment. I need a camera that is small, functional yet can meet my needs plus be compatible with photograph printers. Any suggestions? I love betterphoto and based on previous question and answers, I feel I can get a quality solution to my dilemma. Thanks. PH

  Hi Paula,
I bought the Canon A70 for my daughter for Christmas last year, and it's a great camera with a lot of fun features in-camera, but for good enlargements, I would look at the newer A80 and also the S50, which are both 4mp cameras right at $400 at Amazon. You will have no problem getting nice 8x10 prints from a 4mp camera. Check for ease of compatibility with your photo printer before buying a camera.

You mentioned PhotoShop. I would recommend PS Elements 2 or higher to get the most out of the digital experience. If you have trouble with the printing end of digital, you can just download your images to Ofoto or Shutterfly for pretty excellent printing.

Good luck with your decision!

Oops! The Canon S50 is actually a 5mp camera. The Canon S45 is the 4mp. Only difference between them is the megapixels, I think. Check Amazon for the best current prices and deals.
