canon eos digital rebel vs. canon eos 10D?

I am in the process of choosing between canon's eos digital rebel and the eos 10D.
I am struggling with which one to get. I intend to document my art installations using the new camera. I usually take 35m slides, choose which ones I like and hire a professional to take 4x5s based on my images. Does anyone know if either digital camera can even compete with medium format and/or 4x5 film with respect to quality and print (if I choose to document my own work going forward)? In addition, what is a good "80% of the time" lens? The rebel kit comes with a 18-55 lens I believe. is there a better one I should consider?
I'd appreciate any advice and thank you in advance,
karyn

Medium format will blow Digital away when you make huge enlargements. If your prints are 8x10 or smaller the Digitals your picking between will do an excellent job. Even at 11x14 the Canons produce great results, but depending on the photo and exposure 11x14 can show some unwanted effects.

A good 80% of the time lens for art installations would be the Canon 24-70 L or the Canon 17-40 L. Either lens dpensing on if you need more wide angle or wnat a bit more on the zoom lens. I dont know what kind of are installs you are talking about, wall sized in a small room you need more wide angle etc.

Image quality between the 300d and 10d are going to be almost indentical, so from that standpoint it does not matter. From a feature standpoint and durability and speed the 2 do differ.

The 18-55 lens that comes with the Rebel in Junk in my opinions. After you have shot with a Canon L Glass pro lens there is no looking back. There are some 3rd part lens makers that do 95% of the canon L glass for a lot less, but its only on certain lenses and then you have to worry about compatability issues with future camera bodies.

Hope this helped.
