Need help choosing my first digital camera

Hi there!

I am tryingt o get more info about digital cameras before I take the big step and purchase one of my own. I will mainly use the camera to take photos of my children and family. I am an avid scrapbooker and want to have good photos to put in my albums. With my film camera, I end up throwing away a lot of the photos that I develop and I also end up cutting and cropping most of the photos I keep. I want the digital so I don't end up with so many "wasted" shots and so I can see how my pictures look as soon as I take them. My husband doesn't want to spend a lot of money, so I am thinking that my price limit will be about $700-$800. Any ideas, suggestions, etc would be appreciated!

When you have time please go to your local newsstand or magazine shop, and find a back issue of "Photographic" magazine dated JUNE 2003---it has a digital camera buyer's guide. At your very good camera budget you can buy ANY of the following: NIKON COOLPIX 5700, CANON POWERSHOT G3, OLYMPUS C-5050, SONY DSC-F717. Enjoy and make sure you get warranties from your dealer!

Have fun you have a lot of choice at the $800 mark. Remember to save money for a bigger memory card and rechargeable or extra Lithium battery.

Another excellent camera for point and shoot is the Canon A70 / A80. The G5 is excellent as well as mentioned in another reply.

You personal tastes will dictate what camera you use. Before I bought I would check out www.imaging-resource.com

Reason I suggest this site is simple, its the only place you can go to and say show me the same pictures taken with 2 cameras side by side in controlled lighting conditions. And you can ask for pictures taken in light, low light without flash, low light with flash etc. Let your eyes be the judge of the camera you might want. Specs, megapixels and all that hora are less important if the final picture does not satisfy your tastes.

I could go on and on, but thats the tip of this post.

David
