A good subsitute for my DSLR? I am wanting to purchase a small camera for times when I can't use my DSLR. I need to keep it in the $150-$200 range. Video is not important to me. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you

Not much in the way of really good cameras in that price range, Lucinda. For something very, very good, how about a Canon G10? The G11 is the current model so you should be able to find a good used G10 on ebay or fredmiranda.com (I'd say $300 would be a good price for a very good used one.) See www.dpreview.com/reviews/canong10/ Cheers! Peter

It's a fabulous camera; I owned one but sold it to buy the G11 which cost over $500. Lots of good G11's still around for sale. P.

And the Canon Powershot G10 was a very nice camera too; it would be even less expensive used. www.dpreview.com/reviews/canong10/ Headline features

I have the G10 and my husband has the G12 as backups to our DSLRs and swear by them. If you can afford either, they're terrific, versatile, go-everywhere cameras.

The canon Powershot G series are all fantastic cameras. The Canon Powershot S series is also a great alternative. The S series has the same sensor (i.e., takes the same quality photos), but has a few less features (e.g., no hot shoe for external flash). It is smaller, and a lot of photographers prefer it as a SLR back-up over the G series because of its size. It's also less expensive. The current model is the Powershot S95, but you might be able to get a used or refurbed Powershot s90 for a price closer to your target range.

There are some great reviews about S90. Of course, G10,11 and 12 are the top tier Canon point and shoots and thats why a bit expansive too!! Have heard that the new S95 has the exact same sensor as that of G11 and G12 and the good thing is the S95 has the fastest of the lenses among these and works nicely in low light. UB.
