Canon EOS 1D Mark III

Hello,

I am interested in getting the Canon EOS 1D Mark III, I have the Canon 50D now, and my questions is, how much difference is there in the end results of the photograph?

Using the full frame sensor verses just a portion of the sensor on the 50D.

Thank you for any and all help, this Canon EOS 1D Mark III is very expensive...

The 1Ds is the one that has the full frame sensor. The 1D has a sensor size in between full frame and the 50D.(1.3 crop versus 1.6)
If you meant the 1Ds, you ought to wait to see what Canon plans on doing with it. The 5D II is out now and has the same pixel count in full frame, and has a better picture quality than the 1Ds. And it's less than half the price.
The full frame lets you use your lenses as their typical focal lengths are meant, without cropping. A bigger viewfinder. And larger sensors have larger photo sites, which means better low light capability, less noise, better picture quality.
If you actually meant the 1D, that one was considered Canon's best overall camera by practically everybody. Less pixel count than the 1Ds, not full frame, but even Canon claimed that it had a better picture quality than any of it's cameras.(That claim made before the 5D II was released.)

  Hi Rita,
And then there is this :
Canon D1 Mark IV Rumors (1.3 crop sensor)
http://www.ubergizmo.com/15/archives/2009/06/canon_d1_mark_iv_rumors.html

I have an older 1Ds & the 40D and there is a big difference in picture quality IMO. The full frame (1Ds) has a better picture quality and I like having my wide angle & other lenses equate properly. I am still hoping to get the 5D Mk II soon. The 1Ds is 11MP and is big & heavy and the the 5D II is the same size/weight as the 40D but with full frame sensor & 21MP.
If you have a 50D now, consider the 5D mk II. They would make a nice (full frame & cropped) pair of cameras.
my .02
Carlton

Congratulations Rita on the 5D Mk II. I am envious but am saving my $$ to hopefully get one soon. Have fun with it and I will check your gallery from time to time and see what images you are creating with it :)

Well I tell ya Carlton, it was a great moment in my heart when I ordered it!

Only now to turn around and cancel it...
Total cost $3,823.74...$3,499.99 camera and lens..

Mind you the $323.75 is tax where I live, but I didn't even get insurance put on it...

Another $200. for 2 years..

I have put insurance on all my cameras and I have had to use it... Senor cleaning, camera replacement ect...

But I decided that is just a bit much for my budget...

Soooo, lol... My dream of the most awesome photographs continues...

Thank you for your comments though...

  Hello Rita,
I had been watching craigslist for a deal on an older 5D and came across the 1Ds for $1100. After meeting the seller and running the camera through its paces and making test shots, I happily handed him the $$. I have bought & sold locally on craigslist with much success since you can go look at the merchandise before you buy. I have also seen a few older 5D's in the $1200 range. Might be worth checking out if you wanna get a full frame asap.
I am still saving to get the 5D Mark II myself but it will probably be the end of summer before I can afford it.
Fred Miranda also has a buy/sell forum but I have never bought anything through them. Also, B&H sometimes has deals on used cameras. In the meantime, the 50D is a great camera so enjoy it all you can :)
Carlton
