Tamron's VC 18-270mm Hi, I'd like to know if anyone has tried out the newest addition from Tamron. I have read a number of reviews & it seems rather mixed. I'd like to have a good walk around lens for my Canon XSi, just not sure if this would do the trick. I'm rather particular about getting good sharp shots. With/without tripod, appreciate any input. Sincerely LLS

Leslie: I have tested this lens. It's fine; very similar in performance to other lenses of this type. It's very difficult to make a pro-grade lens with focal lengths from 18 to 270mm! My Review Here is a VERY reliable test report www.slrgear.com/reviews/showproduct.php/product/1217/cat/23 Cheers! Peter www.peterkburian.com

Hey Leslie, I had the same question not too long ago, and decided to go with the Tamron 18-270mm to use for my travels, as carrying too much is a pain. I took it to Key West on a recent trip with my girlfriend (some photos are in my portfolio) and was actually quite impressed with its performance. I had read a lot about poor peformance in low-light, but I didn't find it any worse than my Canon 24-105mm lens in low-light. All in all, I would say it's definitely a good option when you don't want to be weighed down with a big kit. I actually keep it on my XSi most of the time. Hope this helps....
