Photography Question

Carole Fairris

Which camera to buy?

I am torn between which camera to purchase. I am going between a Canon 40d and Canon Xsi. I need the live shooting window on the back and like the 10 plus megapixal? Which one do would you buy?? Why??

Why do you "need" the live shooting window? The fact is, that any attempt to use the LCD as a viewfinder opens the door to image failure, since most photographers can't hold their cameras steady [unless you're planning to use a tripod.]

That being said, you haven't told us what kind of photographer you are - amateur or semi-pro. Frankly, the decision should be made with that in mind.

Most people don't need the 40D. The XSi is great for the price. But, the 40D is a heftier camera and may be the better buy if you're going to put it through hefty paces.

Purchasing the XSi [lower cost] allows you to consider a wider assortment of lenses for the available money you might have. I'd consider this carefully.

All that being said, we've now heard about the 50D. Ho-hum.

Neither the 40D nor the 50D can lure me from my 30D. The fact remains that, while some might argue a 15 MP chip is valuable, stock agencies accept 6 MP images. So, merely jumping to 15 satisfies Canon but not, necessarily, stock agencies.

You need to make the selection based on your shooting needs. Lots of folks may respond to your question but, in reality, you're the only one who can answer it.
