Comparison: Canon 40D & Rebel XSI I am looking to buy a D-SLR. I can't decide between the Canon 40D or XSI. I am looking for some feedback from current users of either camera. I've read reviews on both cameras but would like the input of real people (BP'ers) verses the nameles, faceless online reviews. This will be an upgrade from my current canons (Elan 7NE and G7). Thanks for any feedback and advice in helping me finalize my purchase.

Well to start both Cameras take great pictures, and have very similar features. If you want a better built camera, and one that seems nicer to hold and handle the 40D fits the bill. It also has the very nice thumb wheel on the back too, the XSi does not. You may want to hold off, as there have been some leaks from Canon about the new 50D... 15.1 mega pixel camera, and a few nice upgrades from the 40D. In any event I do recommend the 40D, super cam.

Derek thank you for your response. I decided to go with the 40D. It arrives tomorrow!!! a few of the reviews I read said the missing thumb wheel on the XSI made it harder to access certain menus. My Elan has a wheel that I am pretty comfortable with. I did see the reports on the 50D. The jump in mega pixels and upgrades are very cool but it doesn't come out until October. (It took me this long to get a D-slr, a few more months would kill me) ;>) The price range is a little more than what I am willing to part with at this time. As we all know, with technology, if I wait for the price to come down, the next new camera will be out. I'm sure the 40D has enough features to keep me occupied for a while. Thanks again for responding!
