Pentax ISTD or Nikon D70 ?

I have a Pentax ZX-7 SLR with an 28-80
and 80-300 lenses which I have really enjoyed. I want to purchase a new Digital SLR. Common sense might dictate I go with the Pentax ISTD because I have lenses that are compatible. But, I'm seriously considering the Nikon D70. The price at B&H Photo for the Pentax ISTD w/ a Pentax DA 16-45mm f/4.0 ED AL Lens is 1479.00 (No CF Card)and for the Nikon D70 with 18-70mm DX Zoom Nikkor Lens & Sandisk 1GB Ultra II CompactFlash Card is 1449.00..I'm especially interested in shooting my kids sports events (Swimming, Lacross, soccer) Besides the price. Which would be a better choice in the long run. I would appreciate and advice.

Thanks,

Jeff C

  Consider all costs.
If you want to use the telephoto zoom (which I expect you would for lacross & soccer), then you've already got the 80-300 for the *istD, but with the D70 you'd have to spend more to buy a Nikon mount zoom, which would cost at least as much as the 1g CF card.

If you plan to continue using the film camera, a single accessory flash dedicated to Pentax (eg. AF360FTZ) can be used with TTL operation on both the *istD and ZX-7. With different systems you have to buy a dedicated flash for each, or do without TTL flash exposure and use a non-dedicated (eg. Vivitar 283) on both.

  Jeff,

I work at a camera store, as well as being a commercial/wedding photographer, annd I also use Pentax equipment. I made the decision to go digital couple of months ago.....I bought the Pentax *istD and I am impressed with it....I think the Pentax is better than the Nikon D100 so it is so much better than the lesser D-70.... I also belong to a camera club and about half have purchased digital....have used most of the DSLR's on the market..including such as the Kodak 14 and the uperend Nikon and Canon press digitals.....so.....an other questions e-me back....

Hope this Helped
Kern

Oh I bout the 360 flash and connecting cords.....24-200 and 9-200 f2.8 and a new 3 gig laptop......
