Beth, BP usually posts the upcoming monthly theme a week before the start of the month. Go to the Contest page (http://www.betterphoto.com/contest.php). Then, on left hand side you'll see all the contest categories including the theme. Right below the theme category, you'll see "more about the monthly themes.) Click this link, and you'll see the upcoming month (which is May) at the top of the page. Here's the shortcut link: http://www.betterphoto.com/contest/themes.php.
