I'm sure there are some here, maybe many, who will disagree with me but in all honesty Lynn, if your work is good enough to be selling that well, you're essentially giving your work away for chump change. You should be dealing with a large, professional stock house like Getty. Get a mitt and get in the game. Shutterstock or any other micro stock agency ain't it. :<(

Do some homework, research the market, subscribe to Photo District News, get a copy of their recent stock issue and read it, you'll see what I mean.
Good luck
Mark

Ah, Greg, I actually wasn't going to respond, but your reply gave me my biggest chuckle this week. As time passes, I think of you more and more as a very funny guy!

Mark, in general I respect your comments/opinions, but yes I will disagree on this subject. I will just say that my chump change with less than 300 photos has now garnered $14,602 for me and counting. I just paid for my fabulous Nikon D3 with my earnings from microstock (and what a truly fabulous camera it is... If anyone wants to see what Live View can do for photomicrography, check out the louse photo on my website).

It is interesting that some microstockers from iStock have their foot in the Getty door now (Getty bought iStockphoto for over 50 million bucks...) and some microstock agencies are now members of PACA (Picture Arts Council of America). Could it be that Getty knows something about microstock???

I got my start with skills I picked up here at BetterPhoto and continually seek to learn and create. Microstock is every bit as valid as a business model serving a somewhat different market than the 'macro' agencies.

Take care all, and good shooting.

Actually, it's because Getty wants control over everything. They've sought to take over every image library once the see it shows to be viable.
They worked out a deal with the NBA for the league to use their photos exclusively. That had many journalist worried that it was a precursor to only Getty being allowed to shoot games.
All who make anything from microstocks are rightfully happy about whatever they make. But it's still ignoring the context of it.
